FAQ

Home FAQ
Can I use my benefits?
The answer is maybe!

If you have extended health benefits through work, then you likely can use them with us. Depending on the service and the specifics of your work’s plan, your benefits may cover some or all of your treatment or products at GPFT.

Massage, Physio, Chiro and Athletic Therapy are often part of health plans. Some bracing (off-the-shelf or custom) and compression wear might also be covered, but you may need a Doctor’s prescription to provide to your insurance provider.

If you’re ever unsure, bring your benefits card (or benefits package) with you to your free discovery appointment and we can help you figure it out!

Personal training is not often covered, but some workplaces now offer a health spending account that can be used for things like training and gym memberships. If this is the case, we will provide you with all documentation needed to access it!

What forms of payment are accepted?
We accept direct debit, cash, e-transfer, cheque, and credit card. We are able to direct bill to some insurance companies for some types of treatment.
Will my treatment or brace be covered by OHIP or other insurance programs?
None of the services at Guelph Performance Fitness & Therapy are covered by OHIP. Please speak to your doctor if you require access to an OHIP clinic.

Massage Therapy & Athletic Therapy are covered by many extended health care programs, click here for more information. Extended health care benefits often cover the cost of compression socks, custom knee braces, and off the shelf braces.

Do I need a prescription from my doctor for treatment?
No, anyone is welcome to book an appointment for treatment or bracing, however, a prescription may be required to be able to claim services to your insurance program.

We are able to, with your permission, make fax requests to your Doctor (for example, we can contact your Doctor with our bracing assessment and recommendations to streamline obtaining an Rx for your insurance provider).

Do I need a Gym Membership to book an appointment?
No, members of the general public are welcome to make appointments for treatment or bracing and are able to use the full facility during appointments.

All rehab programs include exercise and access to a gym may enhance or speed up results. Membership at the gym is very affordable and does not require a long term contract or commitment. Please visit PRICING PAGE for more info.

How do I book an appointment?
You can book by contacting us or visiting our online scheduling page. If you are unable to find a time that works, please give us a call or add yourself to our waiting list. We are usually able to see new clients within the week!

When you book an appointment you will be asked to fill out intake forms online. The forms can be filled out at your appointment, although they can be time-consuming and take time away from your assessment. If you have any questions about your forms, please discuss with your therapist at your appointment.

All forms and booking information are stored on a secure Canadian server and are kept completely confidential according to Canada and Ontario law.

What should I expect at my first appointment?
All services at Guelph Performance include a movement assessment. You should wear loose-fitting/athletic clothing that will allow your therapist to see how you walk and stand, as well as allow access for orthopaedic testing. Shorts and t-shirt or tank top are ideal, for both upper and lower body injuries.  Your therapist may also want to look at your footwear, and how it might alter how you walk or move. Please bring the shoes that you most often wear for work or sport, as well as any inserts.

If you have any written reports or other information from your doctor or other healthcare professionals, please bring that to your appointment.

Some services at Guelph Performance are eligible for direct billing to your insurance company. Please contact us to see if you qualify.  If not, you will be provided with a full receipt after payment that you can submit for reimbursement.

Parents are invited to accompany their children during their appointments unless the client requests privacy.

Which therapist should I book with?
All our therapists at Guelph Performance have different strengths as well as varying qualifications. If you are not sure who to book with, you can book a Discovery Appointment to speak with a therapist. This appointment is free and can be completed by phone, video or in person. We will discuss your specific needs and recommend a therapist to book with.

I'd like training, but I'm not sure if I should with my injury...
This is our specialty!

Many of our training clients are individuals that hurt themselves, are rehabbing an injury, or are scared to exercise on their own out of fear of reinjuring.

Many clients work with their therapist and make a gradual hand-off to a trainer once their exercises have progressed from healing and strengthening and are ready for the next step!

New clients with an injury or weakness usually begin with an assessment with a therapist to allow modifications to their exercise programming before you get into trouble.

Injury recovery and prevention is our priority!

I've been in a car accident and need treatment. Can you help me?
We are able to treat those who have been in an MVA, however only under certain circumstances. Please give us a call if you would like to discuss this!

We also are not able to bill your car insurance company directly, but can submit the claim on your behalf after you have paid for your treatment.
