Welcome to our ecosystem
In the city of Guelph, we’re a unique family-owned small business that helps everyone from those looking to be just a little more active up to high-level athletes.
As a clinic and training center, we can help your recovery from new or ongoing injuries, and reintroduce you to activity and exercise safely after injury or prolonged periods of inactivity. We have several Athletic Therapists on staff, some of whom have dual designations, ready to help you.
As a gym, we’re fully equipped with weight and cardio machines as well as free weights. We strongly believe in functional exercise, so if you’re not sure what to do with a piece of equipment, we’re happy to help answer your questions!
Once you are in our ecosystem, we can help determine which of our services could help you the best to reach your goals, quickly.
Whatever your needs, we can likely help! Book a free informational session with any of our therapists and staff to learn whether we could be a good fit!
Our History
Guelph Performance Fitness & Therapy is about creating a safe space for exercise, training, and injury rehabbing. But even though we’re still fairly new, there is some history here!
About 15 years ago, a small gym was started in the north end of Guelph. After being in the industry for decades, Steve Rayner decided to move on from working with franchise gyms to start his own gym, Moves Fitness and Activity Complex, a full-service gym with the goal of being a relaxed, local gym that brings back the personal touch. Steve created a friendly environment that managed to keep its clients returning for years and years.
In 2014, Steve met with Alana Gulka, a local Athletic Therapist and Registered Massage Therapist. After helping her build a therapy clinic inside his gym, Steve gave Alana the space she needed to grow and develop her therapy clinic.
Moves and Alana’s clinic, Guelph Performance Therapy, continued to work side-by-side for four years, helping each other to move forward.
In 2018, Steve decided it was time to retire and pass on the torch, so who better to take over than Alana? Steve recognized that Alana knew all the members and would take care of the business and people he’d spent so many years taking care of.
In December 2018, Alana and her husband, Lyle, officially took over the space that is now Guelph Performance Fitness & Therapy. Lyle and Alana gradually improved the space and slowly introduced things like more open space, a 30-yard track, running the length of the gym, and new machines and equipment.
