Meet Our Newest Athletic Therapist!

September 1, 2021 Posted by Jessica MacDonald Therapy

We are happy to introduce the newest member of our Guelph Performance team! Make sure to say hello and if you have any injury or athletic therapy related questions, she’ll be happy to speak to you! Remember, Athletic Therapy insn’t just for athletes; they can help with many injuries that keep you from getting back to whatever activities you normally do. Here’s a short introduction to Jessica.

Hi there! I’m Jessica, a Certified Athletic Therapist and the newest member of the Guelph Performance Fitness and Therapy team!

            Get to know me:

I was raised in Eastern Ontario, Glengarry county to be specific. Growing up I was always doing one sport or another but my main passion was Highland Dancing. Being involved in so many different activities, I was always nursing one injury or another. This meant I spent quite a bit of time in different multidisciplinary clinics and quickly fell in love with the environment.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Bishop’s University and an Honours Bachelor of Applied Health Science in Athletic Therapy. I’ve worked sideline with a multitude of different team sports including lacrosse, football, volleyball, hockey, gymnastics, and dancing. I’ve had amazing opportunities to travel alongside these teams in Canada, the United States, and even Scotland.

            What to expect:

When you come in for an appointment with me you can always expect a smile (even if the mask hides it). Friendly conversation is always welcomed, I love a good piece of trivia and am always happy to learn new things. However, if you prefer not to chit chat that’s ok too!

My treatment style is very much movement-based, incorporating anything from small activation exercises to sport-specific movements. These exercises paired with hands-on manual techniques help me to return you to whatever level of activity you strive for!

We create your program together. I fully believe in personalized, goal-oriented programs that make the patient feel heard and supported. If you say you don’t particularly like an exercise, we will come up with a different way to accomplish it!

            Favourite sport to work: Lacrosse

Favourite area of the body to treat: Low back

            Favourite exercise: Dead bugs

I love working with people from all walks of life. You don’t have to play sports to be an athlete! Whether your job is physically demanding or you simply want to run around with the kids, a well-balanced Athletic Therapy treatment can help you get back to your daily activities.

Still have questions? Book a discovery appointment with me! A no-charge 15-minute conversation about how I can best help you!
