At Guelph Performance, many of our services are covered by most major health insurance companies! It’s worth checking with your extended health benefits to see if you have coverage that can be used here, or at another clinic of your choice. Some plans have Health Spending Accounts that can be used for most of our services (sometimes even including personal training!). Other plans have itemized categories.
Massage Therapy and Physiotherapy are covered by the vast majority of extended health care benefits. Please check to see what your plan covers. We are able to provide direct billing for Registered Massage Therapy treatments to most insurance companies. Please bring all insurance information for your insurer if you would like us to submit your claim on your behalf. Please note that if we are not able to submit the claim for you, you will be responsible to pay and submit on your own later.
Custom Braces are usually covered by extended health plans, when prescribed by a physician. These braces start at $1750, and so the insurance companies usually would like the prescription and a predetermination or estimate for the brace before they agree to cover the costs.
We can help you streamline that process. Our therapists can help assess your need for a brace, and write to your primary care physician to ask for a prescription. In that same appointment, we will take measurements for your brace, and write an estimate. Once you have received your prescription, you can send it into your insurance company along with the estimate. Once they approve the purchase, we send in the order and you receive your brace within 2 weeks!
Athletic Therapy is a growing profession in Canada and Ontario, and as such is not yet recognized by all insurance programs. There are many companies that do cover Athletic Therapy as a substitute for other treatment options if you call your insurance rep and ask!
The following organisations do offer Athletic Therapy coverage:
(Please let us know if you know of others to add to the list!)
- Hockey Canada (up to $500 for all injuries sustained through hockey)
- Ontario Soccer Association
- Ontario Football Alliance
- Judo Canada
- Blount Canada Ltd. in Guelph
- Guelph Police and Emergency Services
- TB Bank
- Ikea
- LCBO
- Kitchener Fire Fighting Services (up to $900 per year)
- Some school board employees
If you do not have insurance, treatment costs can be applied as a tax deduction at the end of the year. You are also welcome to print these letters for your HR department, and your insurance company, telling them about athletic therapy and requesting that it be added to your benefit package.
There is a program called the Canadian Athlete Insurance Program that allows members of sporting bodies to purchase extremely inexpensive insurance. If you have questions about this program, reach out to Alana — she has a good understanding of it!
As always, please get in touch if you have any questions about any of our services, or how to access insurance to cover some of those services!
